Siemens A.E. received an OHSAS 18001 certification, the internationally acknowledged standard for Health and Safety at Work, from TUV Austria Hellas. The OHSAS 18001 standard sets the framework for the systematic identification, assessment and management of risks for health and safety at workplaces; thus, contributing to the minimization of accident possibilities. Moreover, the certification requires the compliance with the relevant legislation and helps in the overall optimization of corporate performance.
“At Siemens, we believe that our strong commitment in health and safety is the key condition in order to enhance the performance of our people. This certification is very important for us, as it highlights that health and safety at work are key parts of our culture, while it also reflects the company’s responsibility,” said Panos Xynis, CEO, Siemens A.E.
A group of reviewers from TUV Austria Hellas, the independent Technical Controls and Certifications organization, checked and certified the “Health and Safety at Work Management System” of Siemens A.E. The reviews took place in the company’s headquarters, as well as in the worksites where the company implements projects, in July 2012. The OHSAS 18001 certification confirms Siemens’s efforts for the upgrade of working conditions, the continuous reduction of accidents and the enhancement of the employees’ productivity. At the same time, it serves as the basis for the continuous improvement of the company’s operations and activities, something which has a broader positive impact over employees and stakeholders.
At a global level, the Siemens AG group puts health and safety at work at the core of its corporate strategy. Siemens A.E. has adopted the group’s global rules as the basis for the local system, which is properly adjusted to meet the national legal and regulatory mandates, the local conditions and the corporate policy.
