Siemens Download Center: Easy and quick access to technical documentation material from mobile devices

26 September 2013

Every month, more than 40,000 documents are downloaded from the Download Center.

The Siemens Building Technologies Division provides very easy access to its Download Center for technical documents, having fully updated the relevant application for iOS, which was released in mid-2011 and has been installed on around 22,000 devices. This specific applica-tion is now available in a newer version, for Android devices, as well.

In this way, using a smart phone or a tablet, planners, installers and service technicians can easily access information in more than 20,000 documents from the Siemens Building Tech-nologies and Low and Medium Voltage Divisions, among which technical documentation, datasheets, installation instructions, as well as brochures, reference materials and other infor-mation. The access to other divisions’ documents is currently in the works.

The possibility to adjust the default settings is a major new feature of the updated application’s version, in order to facilitate the access to the Download Center. This option allows the users to preset filters that limit searches to a specific division, topic or language. In this way, users have different options to search for documents: the classic ones based on a keyword or a full-text, as well as an additional option that finds documents on a specific topic. Depending on the de-fault setting, the application displays a selection of the latest data sheets and brochures right at the launch. The application can also save successful search queries and generate a list of proposed searches for any future relevant attempt.

The documents that the user locates at the Download Center can be displayed in different views – in a page view or as an overview of all pages, can be e-mailed, marked as favourites for later reuse, or saved to the device. The stored documents can be updated by request, in order to always keep them in their most recent version.

The applications for iOS and Android can be downloaded free of charge under the name “Siemens Download Center” from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The user interface is currently available in German, English and Swedish, while additional language versions are currently in the works.
