Siemens Greece participated in the “Energy and Development 2012” conference, organized by the Institute of Energy for South East Europe (IENE), at Evgenides Foundation, on October 30-31. The participants had the opportunity to have a first hand view of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio solutions at the exhibition “Green Light for Clean Technology”, organized by the company at Evgenides Foundation, as part of the conference.
IENE’s 17th annual conference “Energy and Development” was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change. This year, the conference aimed at focusing on the geopolitical and growth aspect of the energy system in Greece. Moreover, it acted as a platform for fruitful dialogue over the latest developments, the trends and the challenges of energy and environment both in Greece and the world.
Siemens Greece executives, who were among the speakers of the conference, highlighted the value adding solutions that address the current and the emerging needs regarding the adoption of a sustainable development model. Specifically, Mr. Michael Kioumourtzidis, General Director Fossil Power Generation & Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas, Energy Services Division, participated in the “Power Generation and Investments in the Next Decades” panel that focused on the latest developments regarding carbon and gas units, carbon capture and storage systems (CCSE), RES etc.
Moreover, Mr. William Vikatos, Wind Energy Head and Mr. Georgios Kottaras, Regional Head, Control Products and Systems, participated in the panel “Towards the Goals of 2020/ 2030 and the Role of Renewable Energy Sources”, which focused on highlighting the latest technology trends in energy storage, low energy consumption buildings, the integration of RES technologies for electrical and non-electrical purposes, the leverage of IT solutions in “green buildings” etc.
At this year’s IENE conference, Siemens presented its Environmental Portfolio and more specifically, its Building Automation, Wind Energy and Fossil Power Generation solutions, at the “Green Light for Clean Technology” exhibition. The innovative technologies and products of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio highlight the company’s commitment in sustainable development and environmental protection.
In fiscal 2011, revenues from Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio totalled to about €30 billion, making Siemens one of the world’s largest suppliers of eco friendly technologies. During the same period, Siemens’ products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 320 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
